Backyard

“Backyard”, an upcoming solo exhibition by Amitesh Shrivastava, will feature a new series of paintings that draw together memory, landscape, and sensory experience.

Rooted in Shrivastava’s recollections of the forested environment of his childhood in Chhattisgarh and his present life in Mumbai, the works move between observation, memory, and fiction. Dense, horizonless compositions invite the viewer into spaces where figures and forms emerge gradually from richly textured fields of vegetation.

As Grish Shahane writes in the forthcoming publication accompanying the exhibition:

“The impulse animating his art is fundamentally synesthetic. […] His compositions elicit responses beyond the purely visual, transmitting a feeling of movement, of a vibration or pulsation that is arguably a correlative of sound waves.”

In “Backyard”, Shrivastava continues this exploration through a new body of work in which sensory recollection and lived experience resist fixed narratives, allowing the familiar to become strange, elusive, and newly perceptible.
